Since Mom and Dad are so busy and haven't been able to get around to it, I figured I'd put up some pictures of some of the remodeling that has taken place. I think a lot of us have seen it, but for those who haven't...

The living room/dining room/kitchen is just one big room and it is awesome! Perfect for when everyone is there!

TRIBUTE TO MOM

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you who are mothers or who soon will be mothers. This is a special tribute to my mother Phyllis Kirkham Owen. Depending on who is reading this she may be your mother, grandmother, great-grandmother or just a dear friend. Phyllis was born in Lehi, Utah on 22 March 1911 she was the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Kirkham.

Mom had one younger sister Bonnie Jean. Mother loved her years in Lehi, living close to other relatives. She had great respect for her mother and father and alway spoke kindly of her parents.

She was educated in Lehi graduating from high school in 1929 and then off to Utah Agricultural College commonly referred to at the AC, today it is Utah State. Phyllis majored in home economics and education.

Phyllis had a passion for traveling - not sure about this shot - just a trip to the lake for some summer fun. Through the years it was all over the country with our family on family vacations. On the train in the car and later it was visiting children and grandchildren all across the country. North Dakota, Mississippi, California, Florida, New Hampshire and every place in between. You said "a trip" and Phyllis was ready.

At college (AC) Phyllis majored in home economics and education. During her later years at the AC Phyllis met the dapper Ez Owen. I have heard much about Dad's sense of humor and I am sure that was one of the many things that attracted Phyllis to Ez. After graduation mom began teaching high school in Brigham City. I am not sure if dad was already living there or if he followed mom to Brigham City. They were married July 20th 1938 - Ez was 32 and Phyllis was 27. They were married in Lehi, Utah at the Kirkham home. Their marriage was later solemized in the Salt Lake temple.

Brigham City was home for Ez and Phyllis their entire married life. They did move across the street and around the corner. Once there were three children a bigger home was a must and soon there were four children.

There were four children all together Kathleen, Margaret, Tom and Bill. (Kathleen furnished the pictures so maybe that is why she is the only little one represented.) Phyllis stayed at home once there were children. She did supplement the income by having a nursery school in their home. All of us kids have memories of that little school in the basement. That little school lasted for a number of years.

Ez passed away in December of 1963 leaving mom with four kids still in school being out of the work force for a number of years she had to jump back in with both feet which she did. The girls went off to college and Tom and Bill were home with Mom. We of course missed our dad greatly but mom put her shoulder to the wheel and we moved forward and never looked back. I don't really remember our life style changing at all (that home economics major was really paying off)

Mom did what she needed to do and life went on. Here is mom on one of here many trips always wanting to see new and different things. She loved America and wanted to see all she could. She had a passion for quilting and each of the grandchildren have the famous bunny quilt to prove it.

She probably thought the pretty flower garden of the Canadian flag would make a pretty quilt.

Mom lived a full and rich life in her later years when getting around became more difficult Margaret and her girls and Kathleen and her family as well as Bill and family were there to help and do all they could. Thanks to each of you.

The four of us loved our mother and we each learnd many wonderful lessons from her. As we each get a little older our admiration and respect for her and all that she did continues to grow.

Here are the in progress pics of the demo effort! We took out four walls and a closet as well as the stone off the fireplace. Small addition on the front of the house. Most of the kitchen is out, the rest will be out soon. Then we will really be camping!!! Try to guess what room you are in.

Mom and I went to see the movie Flicka this past Friday while Dad was at Woodbadge. As some of you may know, Mom likes to look in the paper and see what kind of grade the movie received before she sees it. So, she looked in the paper and saw that the movie received a "C". She let me know of this and recommended some other movies, but we decided to go and see Flicka. It was GREAT!!!! Animal movies and family movies always tend to be tear-jerkers for me, and this movie was both. I highly recommend it. It was very good!

Buchanan Building

This weekend was a special weekend for the members of the church in Buchanan as well as for mom and I. The new Buchanan building was dedicated Saturday Aug 5, 2006. I was able to dedicate the building. Something else made it very special for me. One hundred years ago at this time the saints in Wellsville, Utah were building the Wellsville tabernacle. Grandfather Evan Richard Owen was the bishop in Wellsville. He had been appointed to be the chairman of the building committee. The building was dedicated in 1907. An interesting fact about the date Aug 5 (dedication date for Buchanan)..... it is the 100th birthday of Grandpa Ezra Benson Owen, my dad, born August 5th 1906.

Here is the link to Zach's email account while he is deployed: zachary.owen@auab.centaf.af.mil. I've talked to him twice and it sounds like he is doing okay. He says it is really hot (and we all know how much Zach enjoys the heat!!) and he's trying to figure out when to get time to exercise. Right now he is living in a tent with "about 20 other hot and smelly guys" (his words) until the people they are replacing leave. After that he will get an actual room that he will share with one other guy. He will only be able to call about twice a week, but he should be able to check his email daily. I'm sure he would love to hear from you...especially as the weeks (& months) drag on!!

Sunday Thoughts

Sis. Strong spoke in church today. Her words made me think about how grateful I am for so many blessings....She spoke about a trip Elder Ballard took with some very wealthy businessmen. They were consumed with making money and acquiring more and more wealth, but in their conversations did not express any joy from family relationships, etc.
As Dad and I have been thinking about another house we have basically said it needs to be comfortable for the two of us, but also that it needs to be welcoming to our family members when they and their little ones come home to visit. As I listened to Sis. Strong's talk and thought about what Dad and I had talked about I thought it interesting that we had not really cared alot about having an extra large house (too much work) filled with lots of needless things, what we have talked about from the very beginning is how well it would work for our FAMILY.
Sis. Strong quoted Matt: 6:19-21..."Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where theives break through and steal.
But lay up for yourselves treaures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where theives do not break through and steal.
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

You all are my treasure. How grateful I am for you.

PS Thanks for your show of support of Dad in his new calling. He is feeling the weight of it but is rising to the challenge.

I just wanted to make a comment about Dad's kind words regarding my schooling. He has been nothing but supportive the whole time. There have been several ocassions when he was left to his own devices but kept smiling and never complained about picking up the slack. What a blessing! Thanks for all the encouraging words. I'll keep trying to do my best.

We're Different

Today at dinner a couple of my roommates and I were having a conversation with a friend of ours, Brian. Brian is really into board games and has about 20 of them out here at school with him. He has even more at home. My roommates were talking to him about certain games and which ones he liked. I realized during the conversation that I didn't know very much about what they were talking about. Now, I have absolutely nothing against board games or families that play them, but as I was sitting there listening to this conversation I said a silent prayer of thanks that our family never had to rely on board games or any other type of media (like movies, TV shows, etc.) to give us entertainment. As a family we were never obsessed with playing board games all the time. We were completely content with just sitting in the living room talking and telling stories or, we could go outside and play sports or jump on the trampoline. We were never the type of family that had a certain TV show that we had to watch every week, and I am so grateful for that! So, I guess I just want to thank Mom and Dad especially for raising us in the gospel and being such good examples to us! Also, I want to thank my brothers and sister for hanging out with me when I was an annoying little kid. Y'all will never know how much that meant to me! I look up to y'all so much and I feel bad for everyone else in the world who didn't get to have y'all as brothers and a sister because they got jipped! So, I guess I just wanted to thank all of you for everything! I love you!

GOLD MEDAL PERFORMANCE

While the 2006 Winter Olympics are coming to a close and nearly all the medals have been awarded, I need to let all of you know about a GOLD MEDAL performance right here at home. This past Tuesday when mom went to her design class she pinned up on the wall her design along with all the others. As the instructor walked past each giving his critique he stopped and made numerous positive comments about the design from the mother of five. In fact he came back to it a second time and comment on how it flowed, that it was an exceptional design. In my book she won the GOLD MEDAL. This was even confirmed two days later in a private conversation between instructor and student. You will have to ask mom yourself about that conversation! Way to go mom, congrats on the GOLD MEDAL.

I found an old roll of film in the diaper bag a few days ago and just got it developed. It was some pictures from earlier this fall. I posted some on our blog- if you are interested, look in the September archives. I also finally got around to posting pictures from Christmas & Wyatt's birthday.

Madison Elle is here!!!! She arrived at 3:19 AM Sunday morning the 29th. A very big little girl weighing 9lbs6oz. Mom and Dad are doing fine. More pictures later. She looks like her mom and has her dad's rosey cheeks. She has already had many many visitors. All her grandmas and grandpas, great grandma, many many aunts and uncles, very good friends, and I am sure even more. We all love her a bunch!!!!

Dinosaur Museum

Today we took advantage of the whole family being home and went up to Woodland Park to visit a dinosaur museum. Wyatt brought along his camera, of course, and this is a picture that Mom snapped of the kids. They are standing in front of a sea turtle ("Archelon") dating back about 70 million years. It is 17 feet wide between the tips of each front paddle.

Merry Christmas to my Family, as you read this more than likely the joy of Christmas morning and Christmas day will be a wonderful memory and many of us will have been able to spend time with one another. I put these few thoughts together on the 24th.

Today is Christmas Eve, early this morning I completed the Book of Mormon as President Hinckley invited us to do. I wanted to finish it before Christmas. How appropriate it was to conclude the last chapter of Moroni on Christmas Eve to be reading of gifts, “gifts of God, for they are many” Mor 10:8. Here are the gifts which are most important to all of us: to teach, great faith, healing, miracles, prophesy, ministering of angles, and more. The most important gift I can give each of you is for you to know I have a testimony of Jesus Christ. I know he is my elder brother. Much of what I do and who I am is because of that belief that He is my Savior and Redeemer. My joy and happiness comes from him and also from each of you. As our family increases in size my love increases for you, individually and collectively. Never ever forget the love your father has for all of you, Zach, Ginet, Wyatt, Bode, Summer, Ez, Crystal, Emmi, Chris, Hayden, Abe, Kelly, Little one to be, and Abby.

2005 A GREAT YEAR FOR THE OWEN FAMILY

It has been a good year for the Owen family: graduates, babies, weddings, moves and more. We all had a birthday so we are all a year older and wiser. Chris finished up at Rice. I think he cheered the loudest and then landed a great job. Kudos to papa Chris! Z, G, W, B, and S moved to Colorado Springs to a fun place that is all their own and Wyatt is our first grade school boy (he especially likes the free breakfasts). Little Hayden "Tex" Boley arrived in style in the Big Apple in late summer. Congrats to mommy Em and daddy Chris. Since then he has been jet setting across the eastern US. I think he is planning on calling Dallas home with Mom and Dad in their new home. The big wedding day in October brought us all together thanks to Ez and Crystal. A beautiful day at the temple and then fun times in Jackson and Powder Town, and now a new little bungalow to call their own. We can not forget the big surprise from Abe and Kelly which will culminate in Feb '06. A little girl that Kelly will be able to accessorize everyday. Now maybe poor Marley won't have to play dress up. Tex will have his new best friend! Abe is getting closer to graduation day himself. And who could ever forget that memorable day in the spring when Little Red got her braces off! I think she cheered louder than Chris at his graduation. Oh how we all waited for this day but no one more than Abby. Way to stick with it Ab. And what about Mom the student who has kept us all together, loving one another, feeding us keeping us happy. We love her. I look forward to 2006 a brighter and even better year.

The Joys of Homeownership...

Well, Chris and I are closing on our house this Wednesday. If you want to see it go to www.drhorton.com, click on Texas, Dallas/Fort Worth. Then you have to click on Frisco. The name of the neighborhood is Queen's Gate. You can then go to view floorplans. It is QG-2. We are excited! There is virtually no yard (just about 5 feet on one side of the house) but there are some parks in the neighborhood.

Boley update

Chris, Hayden, Macee and I have made it back to Dallas. We are living right downtown in some corporate apartments near Chris' office and the American Airlines center where the Mavericks play. I have been busy going out with our realtor nearly every day looking for a house. We have some good prospects and hope to have it taken care of before I come out to Atlanta. Hayden had his one month pediatrician visit on Tuesday and he's a healthy, thriving boy. He is up to 10 lbs. 4 oz. (I can't beleive Abe was that big at birth...I would have died!) which puts him in the 75-90th percentile and he's 22 1/2 inches long - the 90th percentile. He is such a cutie and we love him to pieces. Can't wait for you all to meet him. He loves warm baths and showers and his favorite thing in the world is his robe. He likes to go for walks in his baby bjorn and doesn't care much for his car seat (when we're in the car). Macee has finally realized that he's not going anywhere and is actually taking a liking to him. We'll tell her to "go check on the baby" and she'll go right over to him and give him a lick. She has also started sleeping right next to the dresser where Hayden sleeps in his infant seat on top. I know they are going to be great buds. Chris is a new man...I'm seeing a side of him that I didn't know existed. He's got it bad for his boy. Comes home everyday for lunch (never used to do this - even when he could have in NYC) and wants to wake him up if he's sleeping, rushes to him if he even makes a peep in the night and carries him around in what he has dubbed the "snake hold" (more commonly known as the "football hold") because Hayden "snakes" around on his arm. Anyway, parenthood has definitely changed us - for the better. It is amazing how big of a difference such a tiny being can make in your life. Chris is alreay talking about the next one...

Dad and Abe Hurricane Katrina Relief

Dad and Abe spent a long hot weekend in Mississippi helping with the clean up. We worked out of Collins, MS. just north of Hattiesburg. We cut up alot of very big trees hardwood and pine. There was 160 folks that went down from our stake. We were spread out from Collins all the way to the coast. We were served good food at the Baptist church in Seminary, MS. I enjoyed spending the weekend with Abe. We worked hard and helped some good folks in MS. I will add a picture later. The picture shows one of the hundreds of trees that our stake folks cut up. This one actually pulled up the cement in the driveway. How many can you identify in the pic? The fellow in the middle, yellow shirt/blue stripe, this is the home of his father in law whose wife died of cancer four days after the hurricane.

Here is a cute picture from my shower in GA and some of our trip to Canada. We were able to recover pictures erased off our camera so if that ever happens to you, we know the answer! The first picture is of the Niagara Falls "Horseshoe Falls". This picture was taken from the Maid of the Mist boat. This is the view from Canada. The second picture is Chris and I on the Maid of the Mist boat. The 3rd is a beautiful building in Ottowa (the capital of Canada). I think it may have been one of the Parliment buildings. The last picture is of the CN Tower - the tallest structure in the world. We went up to the observation deck. They have a glass floor (more pics to come). It is over 1800 feet tall. Very cool.

Hope everyone is doing great. I had a fun time in GA and we are looking forward to Ez and Crystal coming to the big apple. We are counting down the days till Tex gets here...I'M READY!

hi everyone. This is my first blog. I like reading about happenings in the lives of the two most faithful bloggers. What's everyone else doing?
We're looking forward to Emmi coming this weekend. It will be a fun few days.
I started my Herbaceous ID class this week. I REALLY like my teacher. He's very knowledgable, passionate about the subject, and doesn't assume you know everything already.

Missing Out!

Wow, I feel like I am missing out on so much! I had no idea that Crystal had a birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CRYSTAL! I also wish I could have been at the Peachtree. For the Fourth, I went with two of my roommates, Ashley and Sariah, to Idaho Falls. We ate at Johnny Carino's (which is my new favorite restaurant, by the way). Then, we went and saw Bewitched. It was really cute. Then we went and "watched" the fireworks. We mostly just took pictures and sat there. The fireworks show wasn't very good. We only sat there for about 10 minutes and then we just decided to go home! It was still a very fun night! I was missing all of you very much, though!
Also, my roommate, Deisha, and I put together a ward soccer team. We had a game last week and we won 2-1. We didn't even have time to have a practice! I am really proud of the team! We have another game this week. I'll try to let all of you know how it goes! Keep me up to date on everything that is going on!

Melting Pot

For Crystal's Birthday dinner, we went to the Melting Pot. I must recommend this place to all. Probably the best Fondu I've ever had. I haven't had that much Fondu, so take it for what it's worth. They first bring out the cheese and you dip bread, chips, vegetables, and apples in the cheese. You can get different kinds of cheeses. Then they bring you your choice of salad. Then they bring the main course which is shrimp, chicken, sirloin, pork tenderlion, and steak. You cook this all yourself in different kinds of mixtures. Then comes the chocolate fondu. You again have your choice, I think we got a mix of white and dark chocolate and s'more's chocolate. They bring cheesecake, strawberries, pinapple, cherries, brownies, poundcake, marshmallows, and gram crackers to dip in the chocolate. It was amazing. A little pricey, but worth it for a special occasion.

July 4th 2005 Lennox Fireworks

Crystal and I went down to Lennox to watch fireworks. Next year all of you please call me and ask me where the best spot is to watch them. We went to the top of a parking deck and probably had one of the best spots in the city. Not many people and perfect view of the Atlanta skyline. Next year we will do it right and take a grill and food up there and nice chairs. The fireworks show itself was amazing. The finale was so good and so fast and loud that we couldn't even see most of them because there was so much smoke. There was a cool breeze the whole time. Happy 4th of July!!

New Classes For Abz

Ez, Santa Rosa looks like it was really fun! I can't wait to be home! I miss everyone!

Well, my new classes for this block started yesterday. I am taking a Humanities class, Book of Mormon and a Modern Dance class. I think my Humanities class will be really interesting. My Book of Mormon teacher raminds me of Sister Lindsay. She is really funny and I'm sure she will make the class erally fun! We actually start dancing today in my dance class andI'm very excited. I have been having dance dreams because I am so excited for this class! I hope everyone is doing well! I miss and love you all!!

Okay, I don't really have anything new or exciting to say, but there hasn't beena post on here for a really long time. So, I thought I would put one up just to give y'all something to read. This first half of the semester is almost over. I'm ready for it to be finished because I am taking Western Cultures, Book of Mormon and Modern Dance next block. It will be fun. I also don't have class on Fridays next block. That will be very nice! Well, maybe someone else should put a little something up here. At least for my sake. I'm so far away from everyone, I feel like I don't know what's going on in everyone's lives!

First of all, a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Ez and Crystal. We are very excited for you and you look very happy in your picture.

Second, I wanted to give a shout out to the most recent grad in the family, Chris. He is finally done and has done an awesome job. I think most of your cards, gifts, and well wishes must have gotten lost in the mail somewhere because the only ones he has received are mom and dad's (hand delivered, I might add) and Grandma and Grandpas - don't worry, I'm sure they will get here before we leave ;). We are on to bigger and better things and will be heading to NYC in mid-June. Chris has to start work on the 15th. I will probably stay up there with him until the end of July then come down to Atlanta to have the baby.

And finally, Abby, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT CUT YOUR HAIR!

Hope everyone is doing great - we hope we'll be able to come down to Atlanta over the 4th. Chris would like to set a new PR in the Peachtree. Any one want to walk with the fatty prego lady?

It's official! Ezra and Crystal got engaged on the night of May 7th in Lyon's Club Park in the town of Clinton, Mississippi. No official date yet, but we are in talks and will let everyone know when we decide something. I can't hardly wipe the grin off my face.

New Semester

I thought I would update since no one has updated in a while. It's a new semester here for me! I live in an apartment complex called Legacy Ridge. My address is: 667 S. 2nd E. #204

So, send me mail (or packages). It is fun to receive them! Let me know if you're sending them because the office doesn't tell us when they come, we just have to keep checking. I really like all of my roommates. One of them is engaged. Crazy, huh?! I have a feeling I will be spending a lot of time studying this semester because I have Psychology, Biology and a BIO lab. All three of those casses are very time consuming! Well, I have to go to another class! See ya!!!
